Mundfish CEO Robert Bagratuni told Wccftech that Atomic Heart 2 is in active development but is still a long way from being released. The sequel will occur several years after the events of the first chapter and its DLC, including the impending fourth installment, which will clarify which endings are deemed canon.

According to Bagratuni, the team is counting on a more open and diverse world with dynamic weather, day-night cycles, verticality, and the ability to return to key spots. The game will have transportation, a more advanced leveling system, weapon customization, and side activities that “reward curiosity.” At the same time, Mundfish emphasizes that it is not aiming for a checklist open world approach; everything should be “handcrafted” and fit into the setting.

The plot will continue the story of P-3 (though the authors state that they are unsure how much and how the story of Nechaev will be presented) and other familiar characters, but it will also introduce new heroes and morally ambiguous choices. The creators promise increased flexibility of action as well as the influence of decisions on mission outcomes. The combat system focuses on variety, glove powers, and enemy growth; internal testing began earlier than in the first phase.

Atomic Heart 2 is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, and the entire trailer was shot using the technology. Despite the more “Western” music, the visual style and spirit of the original will be maintained. However, you will have to wait; the release date will very certainly be around 2027.
