New leaks regarding the highly anticipated next installment of the Battlefield franchise, unofficially dubbed Battlefield 6, have surfaced, revealing details about its free-to-play battle royale mode. The leak, originating from a short video clip, suggests a California setting and unique gameplay mechanics.
The leak, shared by prominent Battlefield dataminer @temporyal, included a brief video showing the beginning of a battle royale match. In the footage, players are shown deploying from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter into a map set in California. Instead of a conventional ring of fire that shrinks the map, as seen in Battlefield V’s “Operation Firestorm,” the new mode will reportedly use a destructive ring made of a compound called “NXC”.
This battle royale mode is reportedly a remake of “Operation Firestorm” and is being developed by a separate studio. Further leaks from May suggest that the mode will feature a system called “Oversight,” which will allow eliminated players to contribute by using remote cameras, drones, and turrets to help their surviving teammates. Players who are eliminated early in a match may also get a second chance through a free redeployment.
These latest revelations are part of a series of leaks that have emerged from the “Battlefield Labs” alpha testing, including details about the single-player campaign and updated player movement mechanics. Electronic Arts has yet to officially unveil the next Battlefield game, but a reveal is expected later this year.
