EA is shutting down online services for four well-known games this October — and once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. Whether you’re a diehard sports fan or a racing enthusiast, this move is bound to sting for some players.
Here’s what’s going offline and when:
- NHL 21: Servers will shut down on October 6.
- Need for Speed Rivals: Sunset hits on October 7. The 2013 title is still loved by many fans of the franchise.
- Madden NFL 22: Online services end on October 20.
- FIFA 23: The last to go dark, with servers closing October 30.
Once these dates hit, you’ll lose access to all online and multiplayer features — including item shops, online matches, and any internet-dependent game modes. And yes, that applies across all platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
EA didn’t share a detailed explanation, but it’s a familiar story. Server maintenance costs, expired licenses, and the push toward newer titles in each series likely played a big role in the decision.
The good news? You can still grab these games digitally and play them offline — at least until the servers go down.
So, which one of these titles are you going to miss most when the lights go out this fall? Let us know.
