Alex Hernandez, the voice behind MindsEye’s protagonist Jacob Diaz, has spoken openly about the game’s troubled launch, echoing widespread concerns over the growing trend of releasing unfinished titles.
In an interview with Check It TV, Hernandez shared his empathy for frustrated players and didn’t shy away from criticizing the current state of game releases:
“For whatever reason, when a company decides to release a product with these issues and then starts addressing them post-launch—as if retroactively—we obviously weren’t the first game to do this. The most famous example, of course, is Cyberpunk.”
As both a gamer and a consumer, Hernandez made it clear he’s against the “release now, fix later” approach:
“I don’t like this model, and I don’t want it to continue. From a consumer perspective—and I’m sure many feel the same way—I believe this model does more long-term damage to a company’s reputation than good. When you release a game that’s not 100% finished and still charge full price for it”
Hernandez proposed a more transparent and player-friendly approach, suggesting that early versions of games should either be marketed as trials or sold at a reduced price:
“I’m not sure why companies run beta tests without calling them that. As a consumer, I’d rather be informed upfront—because then I know exactly what I’m getting into.”
Adding to the controversy, MindsEye’s own development lead reportedly described the team behind the launch as “lazy and incompetent,” further fueling the debate around the game’s state at release.
